FAQ's

These are some of the questions most often asked of us.  If there are any other questions you would like to ask, feel free to contact us.

What can we do to help?
A. 1. Pray!  We firmly believe in the power of prayer.
2.  Send Madi a card or send her a message via the comments at the end of posts or email.

Howare you and Kevin doing?
A. We are doing well.  The day I took Madi to the pediatrician to see what might be going on with that little body of hers, I was really hoping for something like mono or anemia to be the root cause of all her troubles.  While we don't like the diagnosis, her prognosis is really positive.  In some ways I think we are handling the situation much better than a lot of other people.  We aren't allowed to let our emotions rule us right now.  I can't go around crying and moping about because I don't like the cards we have been dealt.  There is no way we are going to make things worse/harder on Madi.  She looks to us constantly to see what our reaction is in a situation and then acts accordingly.
Don't misunderstand,  Kevin and I don't like this.  That being said, we count our blessings.  Madi is still with us.  Her prognosis is good.  Other people have a much worse situation to go through.  We have a powerful God supporting us with family, friends and even strangers.  We have yet to be completely overwhelmed.  We know there are going to be harder times and situations to deal with in the coming days, so we are keeping things positive and enjoying the 'good' days.

How are you REALLY doing?
A. See Above and add 'Really.' at the end.

What is Madi's diagnosis?
A.  Madi was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) on Sept 4th, 2012.

What is Madi's prognosis?
A.  Madi's prognosis is excellent.  Several things are in her favor: she's a girl, she is under 10 yrs of age,  her race and several other factors.  (The ALL link above has some more information.)

What will you be doing about school?
A.  While kindergarden is not a requirement, we (as well as her doctor) are hoping to get her back to 'normal'.  Dr. Rob is thinking she will be able to go back to school at the start of October.  She may not be back to going all day, but we can always work our way back up to that.  There will also be times when she will have to stay home because of a virus going around the school or just because of cold and flu season.  There may even be times that she will go to school wearing a mask.  One great thing is that Madi is already ahead of most of what the teacher is having to teach right now.  This fact will keep her from falling behind and her teacher has already told us she is not worried about Madi's ability to stay with the class.

Will Madi loose her hair?
A.  Madi has a 50/50 chance of loosing her hair.  At this point, her golden locks are firmly attached to her wee little head.  She has lost her hair.  It is only a temporary thing, tho.  Still such a beautiful little girl - inside and out.
